Sis: May your new career be blessed with all that is BEST. Love, Donna.
MY SISTER’S GRADUATION APPRECIATION® More of my honorary poetry paying humble tribute
to my sister, Jacqueline, on her upcoming
graduation from law school in May of 2006.
Authored by Donna J. Fennel on November 2, 2005.
Revised with pride just for you on May 14, 2006.
The yesterday of years that we have been through ~
Ah, so much has happened and we are long overdue.
Transcend now in time to savor a languished look ~
While turning pages of ages in your yellow yearbook.
Recall how freshman registration gave you constipation ~
As you got books and funny looks, moving station to station.
Feeling apprehensive, pensive, out of place in hyperspace ~
When you finally met your new classmates, face to face.
Underclassman glory days, when you were restricted as to ~
All of the places to explore, and elite things you could do.
Yet, as you grew older, you found a treasure trove so new ~
For you discovered yourself while adopting keener views.
Then once an upperclassman, you began driving to school ~
Along a pathway paved with privileges, you bent the rules.
With homework hastily handed in, as you studied together ~
Sleeping through curriculae seemingly dragging on forever.
Now while your head was buried in big bundles of books ~
And your peers were giving you envious sneers and looks ~
Think of the time it took, and countless commitments that led ~
To where you would guide, with pride, on the path just ahead.
From freshman initiation to your ultimate senior graduation ~
Know that at the end of these crossroads awaits an open door.
A brave new world for you to explore, as you leave this shore ~
A barrister you shall master, while all seek your consultation.
Alas, your senior year commenced with university applications ~
I bet you did forget your favorite days in gym were evacuations.
Now recall, as a class, you developed distinctive a senior style ~
An Amazon athlete who could compete, studying all the while.
And as a mentor, you haughtily helped the freshmen adjust ~
To their academia, while lending your all out to their trust.
Now leaving them, perhaps you may yearn to stay in touch ~
Throughout a litany of lifetime destined to transform much.
Comes now your hour of power, when the world awaits you ~
Sister true, for I know you will succeed in a career overdue.
I trust that you will adjust and, as a lawyer, do what is just ~
Now beckons your life that I had always recognized in you.
We two, so many careers we have left impaired, yet managed ~
To somehow survive the transitions without becoming ravaged.
From graphics design to daycare share, we cannot compare ~
These growing pains to what beckons now as professional gain.
Alas, when mom died, she gifted us with her pride and wisdom ~
Knowing well, despite hell we would use wit to survive cataclysm.
Payment way overdue for we two, yet we recognize our calling ~
For day has come of rising sun, while mom keeps us from falling.
While you labor your trade in law, keeping busy shall be my paw ~
As I weave my world of rhyme in time and pursue website design.
For in this enigmatic echelon of endeavors, awaits us is a feather ~
From the gossamer wings of mother, who adores us like no other.
Jacque, now the time has arrived to sojourn our separate ways ~
For life beckons beyond horizon before us like a megalithic maze.
Realize your fated future awaits you, beyond a small mortal scope ~
While the years to follow brim for us brilliantly with joy and hope.
Sister friend, I would be proud of you if graduation I could attend.
Could I have witnessed you come to realization and comprehend ~
The labyrinth of your legal legacy in which, indeed, you will grow ~
And the blessings of dear mother who will be there, as you know.
I can only imagine the pageantry and pomp of this precious day ~
Alas, I was at your high school graduation a twinkle in time ago.
Know that as long as love, laughter and life can fill us with grace ~
Our sisterhood is sacred space.  Now live your life in my embrace.
For you, sister true, never have I boomed with such pride and love ~
Believing you will be blessed with success and Jesus’ love from above.
So of this pride I feel for you today, I come now to claim my share ~
Tho I may not make it to your graduation, in loving spirit I am there.
May your graduation day be blessed with everything that is best ~
I now put quill to my breast to pay humblest sister homage to you.
Just remember when you erect your lawyer sign, take time to find ~
Within who loves you, and believed your dream would come true!
Dearest Jacque, sister friend, congratulations on your graduation!
We know you will succeed and bereave all criminals full of greed.
Do not cry for yesterday, my dear, with your bright future so near ~
If be an hour of fear or need, I shall be there in thought and deed.
We lost our castle at Achnacarry ... it's time we build our own ~
'Midst haunting bagpipe and fife, through life we are fated to roam.
