Whence into the forest fog you venture deeper, fear the hideous, haunting heartbeat of yonder graveyard's spirit keeper. Donna J. Fennel

Could this be the dragon of death?

YONDER GRAVEYARD’S SPIRIT KEEPER®

An original, unnerving Halloween tavern tale to tremble by.

Unleashed through time's veil by Donna J. Fennel (Cobwebmaster) on

29th day of September, 2005.  I suggest reading this during daytime.
Born from yet another figment of my bizaare, unparalleled imagination.

During a restless stroll last midnight, something caught my eye ~

Persuading me to venture nearer and nearer, yet I know not why.

In the distance beyond moon-kissed horizon, I could clearly see ~

A graveyard spread of dead ‘midst gnarled talons of ancient trees.

Yonder revealed a gargoyle gate, surrounding this hallowed ground ~

Where tombstones that abound stood as glaring sentinels, all ‘round.

Over time Mother Nature had, indeed, concealed this horrific sight ~

Embedded like a jewel in this moonlit pool, bathed in opalescent light.

As I neared this nightmare scene, thoughts gravitated towards Halloween ~

While visions of the Grim Reaper appeared as this graveyard’s spirit keeper.

All lay foreboding and still, as I clamored the hill, where I earnestly tried ~

To seek an entrance safe, beyond this wraith gate, where I could go inside.

By now, I was in full focus of this majestic gate forged in days of yore ~

And tho it was shrouded in rust, I opened it in trust, yearning to explore.

My, this fence was fiercely strong, for it was masterfully crafted that way ~

Assigned to protect what cacophony of sin lurked within, even to this day.

However, once I got past this cemetery gate, I was much overtaken, too ~

By dense, thickets of vines wicked shrouding sacred area where they grew.

Alas, to my surprise, some epitaphs on the gravestones could still be read ~

As I knelt before some in dread, and read this spread honoring their dead.

Ah, these revealed that a multitude of tortured spirits were represented here ~

A commonwealth of souls carrying weighty tolls; their message became clear.

Epitaphs stating that as the people were laid to rest in this hallowed ground ~

Soil absorbed their tears and fears, while swallowing their suffocating sound.

I could not help but cock my ear towards this thirst of dirt that once thrived ~

I heard absurd herd of souls moaning they had, indeed, been buried ALIVE.

And while I rambled and ambled to diligently decipher each and every stone ~

Somehow I could not convince myself, even then, it was time to scurry home.

Here lay incessant cries of those who had refused to die, wrongly laid to rest ~

Remaining victims ‘neath wormy soil, left here to spoil, evolved my best guess.

Buried alive by avengers and enemies in vain, those who were not even slain!

O, I can now perceive why these prisoners grieve, fathoming their ages of pain.

Innocents now facing Netherworld imprisonment, who thrived centuries ago ~

Ah, their descendants who wait to meet them in the beyond will never know!

My sincere wish and prayer is that in this lair, fond life memories still remain ~

While these prisoners of despair, eternally wail in frosty air of their horrific pain.

Now Mother Nature decides to stifle their cries, as she heralds pelting showers ~

As these tortured souls forever moan, their drone reveals cacophony of horrors.

Alas their tales of woe, surpassed only by Poe, are silenced in torrential spray ~

On Earth, these souls had prayed to stay; now, I wish I could hear what they say!

If only they could be exhumed from these tombs, releasing them for all eternity ~

To enlighten and frighten present day with their stories, setting their spirits free.

These tortured souls deserve nothing less than a decent burial and exorcism soon ~

Not to be forgotten like this, concealed and amiss, ill fated to this eternal doom.

These baleful banshees, once amongst the living, were compassionate and giving ~

Should have never been cast as forgotten lot in plot, and walking amongst our living.

What perplexes and vexes me still as I stand in dismay, today, on this horrific hill ~

Is how a spirit now laying ‘neath this grassy vernal can continue existing as eternal?

Imagine if mankind could find where other tormented souls have been buried alive ~

If we could find the remains of these wraiths, we could rescue them from souls' waste.

If we listen to the graveyard’s mournful song, while embracing its haunting melody ~

By honoring those once alive, now gone, would this guarantee that OUR soul stays free?

Ah, within the gnarled talons of primordial trees resides this graveyard’s spirit keeper ~

Unforgiving, refusing to console our living, he reigns as brutal best for Death’s guests.

And the fate of those unfortunate souls who succumbed to the grip of this Grim Reaper ~

Remains mystery throughout history, while he stays supreme on one’s way towards rest.

For eons, this malevolent beast has labored here, assigning quarters to those who fear ~

Comes soon your own hour where he will unleash his power, while he approaches near.

While the Graveyard Keeper, whose nemesis is Grim Reaper, waits to refresh his dead ~

He watches as fresh corpse turns stiff upon bed, choosing to steal another soul as bread.

O, I must hurry home despite these who grieve, for I cannot stand hearing their moans ~

Any longer, while their cries grow stronger, knowing this is their fated permanent home.

While the Graveyard Keeper oversees new territories in his skull and crossbones chair ~

He will laugh in your face when him you try to defy, as he welcomes YOU into his lair.

GOTCHA!  I HOPE THAT YOU ENJOYED THE BIZAARE VERSE OF CURSE HERE THAT I HAVE EMPLOYED, AND NOT WITNESS A SIMILAR FRIGHT DURING HALLOWEEN NIGHT.  MAY IT BE SAFE AND FULL OF DELIGHT.

Created and brought to you UNmercifully by Cyber Donna, Cobwebmaster from the haunted halls of her Fennel library.  While here I finally cease from my rambling daunting, I hope that your Halloween does NOT include a Graveyard Keeper haunting.  Experience and enjoy!
