Quilled during my dinner hour on December 2, 2005

With humble pride, near my mesmerizing fireside.

The Son is among us when we need Him the most.

May you be blessed with all that is best, my guest ~

While yet another yawning year winds down to rest.

Allow the Lord to bestow direction and His Blessings

Of compassion and good will, for excellent reason ~

While you rejoice, in song, of this wondrous season.

When you pour libations and nog, raise your cup ~

Of wonder, child, while you pay a toast to next year

For those able sit at your full table with you to sup ~

Owe it to the good fortune of yours dear being near

And, with surprise, you realize the Lord is also here.

‘Midst mirth of wining and dining, festivity and fun ~

Pay humble homage to the miracle of a New Year!

As the Nordic snows lend their parade of patterns ~

To the lifeless, lackluster landscape of a sky's lullaby

The Holy Spirit is forever nigh, and you know why.

When the last of your garland glitz is stowed away ~

And the leftovers of your feasts are precious and few

Before you decide to send St. Nicholas on his way ~

Ask him to stay another day, for his forte is still true

To assist in giving your gift of self to others like you.

While the wreath is still fresh, and pine yule is new ~

Near the angel, who reigns on her spruce bough blue

Through the wailing wind’s loud lament, do repent ~

For this year is not complete; duty needs to be spent ~

Honoring the One for whom this holiday was meant.

Solstice eve grows tame, while moon is on the wane ~

Yet His holy beam waits beyond the hill, when all is still.

Joy and comfort are at the Master’s will, hosting respite ~

To ignite the holy Light, ere bright, in your heart tonight.

Look now through your window at His star shine delight.

Celebrate and venerate, with pride, this Christmas tide ~

While snow silhouettes a silken visage of the Holy One

Watching from a Bethlehem star, shining over the rise ~

Alongside the spirits of your dear family who have died.

Over yonder horizon, you can see the Light of the Son.

When you are wrapping presents with beguiling care ~

By fireside, ‘midst such comforting calm of your lair

Glance through yonder frosted window pane faire ~

From your rocking chair, for the Star beckons there.

It hosts wonder bright to this night beyond compare!

Especially for you, offered with endearment and love ~

I trust that this was inspired by our good Lord above.

May you enjoy my Good King Wenceslas token here.
