My precious Cookie has gone home ... Cyber Donna

PROLOGUE: Cookie, my nine-year-old, friendly, beautiful, gentle cat, died three days ago of what we believe to be Tularemia or “Rabbit Fever”, which is a potentially fatal disease she contracted through exposure to an infected rabbit, which my cat appeared to have killed seven days ago and did not develop chronic, painful symptoms until just a few days later. It just so happened that our family was away on a week's vacation during Cookie's time of passing, and we speculate that she died on Sunday of that week.  Alas, if we had known that this was the disease Cookie had contracted at the time, surely we would have treated her with antibiotics; however, these symptoms mimic those of a cold or the flu.  To our alarm, we discovered Cookie dead in one of our closets upon our return home from vacation.  We have since had our other cats and dogs tested for this disease which, gratefully, our other pets' test findings were all negative. This is my humble homage to my best pet friend of nine years, who was my most loyal and loving comrade for three years when I endured hardship and lived alone.  May she rest in heavenly peace.  I sense her gentle presence around me always, knowing that she is happy with her comrades in Rainbow Heaven and we will be happy together again someday.  We strongly recommend you have your pets checked and immunized routinely by a qualified veterinarian, so that you can enjoy a wonderful, healthy companionship with your pets for years to come.

AN ANGEL WAITS AT HEAVEN’S GATE®
Lovingly and compassionately authored by Donna J. Fennel
On this 23rd day of September, 2003 ~ Just for Cookie.
Revised by dawn’s early light for you on May 12, 2006.

“Cookie died yesterday”, was my mournful cry to my friend on the phone ~
My nine year, faithful companion; we shared life and hearth and home.
She loved me and was always near as my guardian, through the years ~
Some think me a fool to hurt this way, as I cry and shed torrid tears.

Alas, she leaves as I bereave, while birds of prey foray at my very soul ~
Woe impounds me to face the storm, like ships cast upon a rocky shoal.
Frailest feline of mine, like our friends, we take for granted every day ~
Not knowing how deep hurt harbors our hearts when they pass away.

Many days Cookie and I played, partners tossed amidst life's travails ~
Each depending upon the other’s strengths, for camaraderie never fails.
Some folks do not comprehend the loving bonds we build with these ~
Creatures who are a choice part of us, not knowing that they will leave.

Came a spell when I was alone, and my precious Cookie was all I had ~
When I was on my own in my happy home, our modest apartment pad.
During a time when I worked two jobs and my life was filled with sobs ~
As I arrived home totally distraught, she would comfort me in my cot.

Life's range we ride is not an easy glide, for roads are far from straight ~
With valleys shrouded in the magic of time, mysterious myriads of fate.
While the seasonal procession branding our innocent earth bounds span ~
Revolves faster for all creatures great and small, than it does for man.

Alas, we are left to contemplate fate, how we come to love them so ~
How the void so deep evokes us to weep, when it is their time to go.
Tho we will never forget them, and there will be others down the line ~
Their tender spirits stay on with us always, no more a pawn of time.

Then at sunset along valley's rim, when heavenly hues of rose and gold ~
Remind us while the body flags and drags, our souls will never grow old.
Decadent days amidst this haze, when we played with our little friends ~
Knowing not our pet will meet Sire Death, or our happy days may end.

This is God’s solution for earth’s revolution to evolve into a new day ~
As innocence is reborn our bodies are shorn, while dues in life we pay.
Marvel this magnitude of it all, for the ONLY truth life honestly holds ~
Burns deep in the heart when time falls apart as it sears the mortal soul.

I recollect dreary days, when I mused at her wavering, quavering tail ~
When all in life seemingly had failed, this merry comrade saved my day.
Always affectionately affecting my mood, bringing joy to my solitude ~
Although her tail its last has waved, from silent suffering she is saved.

Tho a thousand nebulae of nights shall come and pass in nanoseconds ~
My Cookie’s star shall beam brightest by far amidst heavens, I reckon.
Bravest Valkyrie, steering gallantly at her helm in this Celestine realm ~
Alas, my fallen angel has returned home, finding eternal peace at last.

Now my Cookie's tiny soul is at one with God, above my humble sod ~
Through this life I must valiantly trod, without my tiny partner to guide.
I gaze into the indigo sky, while my tears are mirrored by moonshine ~
The brightest constellation is Cookie’s indication that all above is fine.

The best friends we make along the way, while we sojourn life's path ~
Might just be that special cat we have grown to love, hoping it will last.
And if tempests of time may one day separate us for a temporary hour ~
Be comforted, for you will be reunited with them through God’s power.

Cookie, know that I love you dearly, which my poem cannot express nearly.
Love, Mommy.
