For you, dear Mother. I know that you are out there ... Love, Donna
A LOST SOUL GOES HOME® Original, heartfelt poetic homage by Donna J. Fennel.
I dedicate this tribute to my Mother, who passed
away into the spirit realm on October 29, 1989.
Revised especially for mother on May 16, 2006.
My dear mother, may you finally rest in peace.
O, Heavenly upwards I must soar ~
On gossamer wings stretched wide.
My lonely sojourn, my escape ~
In an incessant, perilous glide.
Forever onward I am to fly ~
What is the reason that I chase?
I am lost in this solemn world ~
O, I need a final resting place.
Always searching, yet never finding
Some place special, just for me.
A sanctified haven of serenity ~
The beautiful place I yearn to be.
Hark, land ho ~ yes, do I see it?
As I slowly cascade Earth-bound.
This lovely vista beckons me so ~
While I cautiously circle down.
My destination becomes closer ~
With spread wings, I finally land.
The horizon expands before me ~
Like a man’s beckoning open hand.
My heart now races with pure joy ~
As I fold my gossamer wings to rest.
I now tuck my celestial body inward ~
Head now limping towards my breast.
I am suddenly startled and awoken ~
Alas, this sanctuary is NOT mine.
It has been claimed by yet another ~
This utopia belongs to humankind.
Am I destined to endlessly wander
So it appears, this wayward world?
I ascend and hover eagerly yonder ~
As my gilded wings become unfurled.
There exists a realm in the astral plane ~
Where soft night is born, and sunset dies.
Farthest shores see faint tides fade away ~
A mortal utopia of laughter, tears and sighs.
The Holy Spirit gently approaches me ~
Like a visit from a long, lost dear friend.
I leave this land with outstretched hand ~
As Jesus prepares to take me home again.
Heavenly upwards I resume my flight ~
‘Pon gossamer wings stretched far and wide.
O, I must continue this angel-bound ride.
For I know what it was like to have died.
As I ascend yonder homeward with Jesus ~
I turn my head briefly to gaze back down.
I, this wayward spirit, eventually hear it ~
Angels’ choirs as I soar Heaven-bound.
Your father smiles, offering his hand ~
As I join him under God's holy command.
Your terrain beyond my celestial plane ~
Reminds me true home is where I stand.
O, Earth’s domains are not joyful places ~
Where tormented souls with mortals trod.
Yet, I saw His presence in so many faces,
In whom shone the Holy Light of God.
My recent visit on Earth was bittersweet ~
While there, my heart overflowed with sorrow.
My daughters, come soon the day we’ll meet ~
To, once again, celebrate all of our tomorrows.
"Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson ~
