A TRIBUTE TO MY HUSBAND® Who retired from the Federal Highway Administration, Tallahassee
Florida, following a phenomenal tenure of 38 years on May 1, 2004.
May his honor and legacy live on in all of those who represent him.

Darling Steve, before I met you, I stumbled through my life dreary ~
While time escaped ever so swiftly, my heart grew weak and weary.
For during that era, had I possessed upon my breast wings of a dove ~
Indeed, I would have ascended without end, towards heaven above.
Our passion now embraces us with scintillating sensation so divine ~
While we quench our thirst with gentle kisses and our arms entwine.
Dear husband, take me into your arms, soaring beyond space and time ~
Towards the beckoning threshold of azure blue in yonder homeland sky.
Before your travels, you ask me what tokens of affection when we ~
Are separated for weeks or more, I wish for you to bring back to me.
Love, just bestow me with your return and a pure and faithful heart ~
Without gold charms but loving arms, as loyal as mine are now to thee.
Now you speak of returning with tempting treasures from other lands ~
To present me with upon your return as a welcomed and worthy surprise.
My darling, know well I shall not desire to search your mighty hands ~
For gold. Lo and behold, just to gaze into your marvelous hazel eyes.
While the years that we share as one continue to skyrocket and pass ~
There are nights when I foresee in my mirror, which perhaps may fall
Peculiarly off the bedroom wall, splintering into several slivers small ~
A bright future with our family, revealing happy faces in one and all.
Loved one, come and look into this mirror; do you recognize we two?
Our caricatures, features and expressions differ so between me and you.
Behold, this mirror mysteriously foretells the future in its gilded frame ~
I clearly view the legacy of Steven T. Fennel carrying on his family name.
Your foremost virtuous act speaks for itself; you raised six children alone ~
While forging a legacy of 38 Federal Government years, you made a home.
You were their lives’ bread and kept them well fed. O, they love their father!
Tho a man of mystery, you are a milestone in history, respected like no other.
Know that all of my most endearing visions are treasured pieces of you ~
I dream they be cast into a looking glass, to reflect a most gratifying view.
As I therein none other’s face but yours can view a heart so pure and true.
Magnified more so by this very mirror that holds a noble reflection of you.
Steve, in my life you are my guiding light, a beacon of hope in the night ~
Dreams of cloudless mountain climbs amidst the indigo, star-studded skies.
Husband, you are my everything, and all that is best of beautiful and bright ~
That meets in your aspect and your heart, within which tenderness you impart.
Silently soaring through space and time, tho seemingly lesser this light now ~
None lovelier lingers beyond my beyond enchanted echelon of dream than thou.
Yet what you may discover while journeying beyond this anticipated transition ~
Is a stellar sanctum beckoning beyond, as you begin life anew sans admonition.
There are those among humble heroes, whose perseverance allowed us to grow ~
From watching what their champion achieved during the reign of their own region.
You are admired, dear sire, by your Federal colleagues 'mongst the brave legions ~
Of our regime’s realm, for you steered captain’s helm; success to them you showed.
Alas, moonlight one shade more, one ray less, half impaired the nameless grace ~
Now cascades gently over your handsome face, which waves in each silvered tress.
Where your innermost perceptions reside, while your mouth tenderly does express ~
That you love me unconditionally. O, how phenomenal is their dwelling place!
I bestow you with this poetic dedication, as my timeless token of appreciation ~
For within the creases of your dauntless face, rests history of being a saving grace
Not only for me, but for folks in the labyrinth of life whose hearts you’ve touched ~
Congratulations on your retirement, for you deserve the best and are loved so much.
