YULETIDE FIRESIDE FANTASY ®
Original, reflective Christmastime poetry
and dream craft by Donna. J. Fennel, CIW/SD.
Quilled on this 10th day of December, 2004 ~
Revised during sunrise for you on June 1, 2006.
May this offer hope to all whose holidays they miss.
Logs linger 'pon fire, for winter wind blows her chill ~
While it whispers and whistles with a wanderlust will.
As we, of Harmony, maintain our Yuletide merry still ~
And deer and dove ‘pon yonder hill await seasonal kill.
Alas, every age seems to deem each newborn year ~
Fittest of winter tide pride for friendly, festive cheer.
Festoons adorn our rooms, bathed by opalescent moon ~
While a snow-mittened tree spray sashays and swoons.
Soon we shall feast 'pon roast beast and valley deer ~
Toasting beckoning New Year with a chalice of cheer.
Recollecting tavern tales from glory days that were ~
As reminiscences stir of happiest of holidays incurred.
Might of delight, when amity of family fondly recalls ~
Days they danced 'midst halls at festive holiday balls.
Know when this season stalls, while shopping malls ~
Duty calls to give glory to God, as His holiday falls.
O, so well our fellow Christian sires of periods old ~
Loved when the year its current of course had rolled.
Behold, when they brought blithe Yuletide back again ~
'Mongst circle of friends, dreaming this day may not end.
Our family pays homily to Holy One on Christmas Eve ~
Whence Babe, who lay ‘mongst hay and shoddy sheave
While angels sung and Celestine chimes had been rung ~
As Mary clung to her Son, knowing Savior had come.
Winds eyes did sting, whence arrived then three Kings ~
To bless their Holy Guest with best of what they bring.
Bearing gifts, 'midst riff and rife of mankind in strife ~
So Jesus would bestow those of faith with eternal life.
For the poor folks down the road, we open our heart ~
And doors during this season, for Jesus is the reason.
I pray on this day you who read this verse will rehearse ~
In your mind, how to find ample love to end greedy curse.
As damsel and dane now dine ‘pon our goose and grain ~
We should not be so ashamed to offer to those without
Invitation to engage in sumptuous feast on this night ~
To persuade delight towards a starving family of fright.
And to the elderly gent called George living in our dell ~
We wish him well, hoping he will visit with us for a spell.
While we open our door to poor living 'mongst us here ~
Sharing our table with all near and dear during New Year.
I look forward to making merry with my friend, Cherie ~
While we entertain and host celebration with finest folks.
O, what will mean to me most, while we supp 'pon roast ~
Is when we pay a toast to the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
We send prayers to our friend in this glen, well meant ~
Mike Mikesell, whom we have both come to know well
In diminutive dell, who is battling illness of devastation ~
We extend to this friend appreciation for our association.
Now we wish to offer our hospitality in this principality ~
While residing in our hall of grace 'midst such placid place.
Welcoming Yuletide, when we raise chalice against malice ~
In our premiere dome palace, ‘mongst the merriest of face.
As resident village voice, I have made a paramount choice ~
To rejoice that we two reside in this humble hamlet with pride.
I shall abide to help our neighbors, providing friendly favors ~
To those here of modest living, through true spirit of giving.
It now appears Mother Nature yearns to don ivory crown ~
'Pon our sleepy town, while snow silences wilderness sound.
Yet this lack of noise employs joy, for if we cock our ear ~
We can hear Jesus is near, to bless our neighbors living here.
So like this dawn of a snowy down that surrounds our town ~
We found ivory crown be akin to annunciation of spiritual win.
For we who be of sin, 'tis Christmas Day when we will find ~
That the One Divine shall be welcomed at our table to dine.
Holly boughs adorn our halls and walls bedecked with mistletoe ~
While anticipation grows for Santa’s house call, as we know.
Bing sings Good King Wenceslas, while I fix special dressing ~
“He who now will bless the poor, shall yourself find blessing.”
And when we gather 'round to dine 'pon Christmas feast fine ~
Imbibing ale, telling merriest of a tale, indeed, we will not fail
To thank Jesus for blessing us with new friends in our hood ~
‘Midst our wonderland of wood, being grateful as we should.
Our oaken table will soon be graced with pheasant and sage ~
On the calendar day whose page ne’er ceases, from age to age.
And our hearts will harbor pride that this first merry Yuletide ~
Blesses us with friends at our side, thanks to our Holy Guide.
We find our logs and wassail grog is now so well supplied ~
While we await St. Nicholas to enter our new chimney wide.
Knowing with all our hospitality train, he will return again ~
Only this year it will be ‘mongst our fine circle of new friends.
And, in merely a dight we will all find delight, as mirth ignites ~
Like these fires in our gleaming stove, new friendships will grow.
On Christmas Day, when weighty life anchors we naught tow ~
For, as we know, ‘tis holiday when the Star of Bethlehem shone.
Yea, it comes as no surprise to she who witnesses in the eyes ~
Of a poor child, tender and mild, when he has discovered a toy
Bringing him joy, knowing that some unselfish one did employ
Their generosity to spare dollars and love with genteel guise.
O, our once ferocious fires desired wane towards an ember ~
While Steve and I pause to remember this premiere December
'Midst a star-studded eve, while snow flurries refuse to leave ~
Our most placid place at Yuletide, when we honor His Grace.
"Blessed be the pure of heart, for they shall see God."
"Strum a calming chord into the hearts of many ~
From the One’s loving lyre that is Heaven-spun.
For the asking price is not an ounce or a penny ~
To offer mercy aplenty for world peace to be won."
