Like your cradling branches, may man initiate peaceful advances. Donna J. Fennel

ODE TO THE LIVE OAK®
Original, pacifistic, promising poetry promoting world peace and empathy by Donna J. Fennel.
Original authored for you on February 28, 2005.
Revised to honor with pride on April 30, 2006.
The live oak tree in my below original poetic tribute
represents the precious family of man.

Akin to a vestal virgin whose grandeur ~
Entrances, an enchantress who entices.
So mote it be, the graceful live oak tree ~
She is mesmerizing with her virtuous vices.

As her tantalizing tendrils cascade down ~
’Long the byways, trails a sensuous scent.
Lo, permission to cut down her lush crown ~
Of beautiful boughs would man ere lament.

For so endangered is her sanctified species ~
’Tis known to now be well protected by law.
Plight of this noble tree, her emerald majesty ~
Man views in admired awe, detecting no flaw.

And her cavernous canopy doth lend its majesty ~
To harboring highways and byways of Tallahassee.
Men reach levels euphoric along our land historic ~
While her they view as they drive her aged avenue.

Embracing eloquence and eternal enamorence ~
While she cradles as the navel of her forest grove.
As her willowed, wondrous wisps blow a kiss ~
To those, for she ostentatiously outranks a rose.

Alas, Gideon’s guilt overflows in man’s veins ~
For he dreamed her enduring roots be exposed.
Verdict knows she lives fore'ermore and reigns ~
Be not this arbor of ardor mutilated or disposed.

Weepeth not, poor live oak, as does sister willow ~
As I do, when I lay awake upon my feather pillow
When I try to fathom how you managed to survive
Despite our progress.  May you continue to thrive.

Man must protect this noble tree amongst forest dwell ~
While we protect ourselves from lurking enemy’s hand.
We must save this ancient arbor from impending hell ~
While we save ourselves, lest it all become wasteland.

For within her vestige of vestibule lies a forest glen ~
Framed by face of grace, placid place for you, friend.
Respect her well on Arbor Day, and for her do pray ~
That she become not extinct due to a nuclear foray.

Her astute acumen of the ages knows ever so well ~
Her nomenclature of nature, for she does outreign
The redwood tree, her sanctimonious sire of desire ~
Through the eons and echelons of Northwest plain.

For within her cradling caphelon live oak represents
An embrace of peaceful place, sanctuary and hope
Passionately pulsating in the hearts of some men ~
Who seek world without end and enemies as friends.

Woeful world harboring hate, as peace we degenerate ~
Nay, by our own mortal hand we may slither into sand.
Yet a harbor of hope resides in those men ere impervious ~
To swords wielded at Godspeed, like Whirling Dervishes.

Tho mankind now undergoes turbulent tempests of war ~
Pray the live oak not become extinct or well deplored
By our adversaries, through their terroristic attempts ~
For the woe to those destroying us will be Heaven-sent.

May the glow we witness through prayer and meditation ~
Expose the dawn of a new day, and not that of radiation.
For tho we are noble and strong, like the grand live oak ~
Let us not allow ignorance to become our shrouded cloak.

Peace and prayers from my lair of care ~
Donna J. Fennel ~ For 2005 and beyond.

"May the live oak tree be allowed to spread her branches like angel wings ~
For they still can comfort and shield from forces that man and nature wield."
