Welcome to our valley of moo, cow poo and moo-load-ious boos. Donna J. Fennel

ODE TO THE BOVINE®
Original, poetic satire by Donna J. Fennel.
Premiere publication on April 24, 2004.
Revised from the "sticks" on November 6, 2006.
This is my mooooving comedy honoring our cows.
Welcome to my “udder” side of life ... the lighter and sillier end, my friends.

In our valley of moo reigns you true, motley bovine crew ~
Scampering towards our ponds, while depositing moo dew.
And as you quench your thirst in our crystal waters blue ~
Your mirrored images scatter fractal fragments of you.

My heart goes aflutter when in the opalescent moonlight ~
I cock ear to hear bovine babies moo and coo with delight.
Cutesy clones of you, brown moo, o, your precious babies ~
As they saunter off from yonder skunk plagued with rabies.

Alas, how now, my moo cow, shall you and your brood survive ~
Knowing wolves appear from woods near, like bees from a hive?
And when you chose to buck the trunk of our car the other night ~
Your steer came way too near towards losing his prized eyesight.

I can't fathom how you manage to stay away from coyote ravage ~
Nor can I figure out how you work to remain so rotund and stout
While eating only grass which, for me, would quickly exit my ass ~
In quiet surprise, while I encounter vile piles of your cow pride.

Quite honestly, I believed your species was dumb, lackluster in fun ~
Until Steve and I desperately tried to dodge you on our county road.
Hey, you think it’s a game to play untamed while standing in our way ~
As we bump your behinds and fenders grind, you decide to dump a load.

Stupid species that you truly be, o, why did India decide to set you free?
They venerate you as being sacred lot, while their country is overwrought
With poverty, while you are allowed to roam free as royalty and majesty.
Yet here, moo parts equal not moo sum, for we realize you are truly dumb.

Yet some civilizations, over history, have recognized your emancipation ~
Like a cyber nerd, you stick with your own herd and “udder” few words.
Akin to heavenly fission, you have a mission to fill us with your nutrition ~
While America’s Farmer Death prepares his plows to guillotine your head.

Now that we have arrived in Harmony, we believed peace there would be ~
Yet when I rose this morning, you provided Sunday choir without warning.
I had wished for lilting rhapsody of birds, when cacophony from your herd
Rang loud and true from valley of moo, while you swept away morning dew.

Now when Steve and I gaze at a star-kissed sky atop our bedroom balcony
Instead of being embraced by sacred space of the celestial heavens above ~
We had hoped to watch in quiet wonder constellations, when from down under
Upon yonder ground bellowed your annoying sound, while hooves you pound.

Yet, ironically, you lend such ambience to our new Harmony dome haven ~
As another calf you spawn on our lawn, keeping us awake from dusk ‘til dawn.
Well, if it were not for you, mistress moo, we would not have meat or butter ~
And tho you stink, Steve and I really think we could love you like no “udder”.

My ode to the bovine breed, upon which we feed with greed and truly need ~
And upon my lawn, they yawn and spawn while mooing their vile rebel creed.
Although they are messy, malodorous and “moooo-load-ious beasts”, indeed ~
They do not do a good deed, and their message we should all heed (agreed?).

Have an awesome, funtabulous day while Cyber Donna goes her merry way.
