Allow your mind to contemplate this concept I humbly generate. Donna J. Fennel
OPENING THE PAST’S PORTALS® Original, philosophical poetry by Donna J. Fennel.
First issue published on April 4, 2005.  Revised on May 6, 2006.
I dedicate this to my sister, Jacq for her birthday.  Happy Birthday, Sis.
They say that once you arrive at a fork in the road ~
Blindsighted, choosing the left path and not the right.
You may wander, determined to find your way back ~
Discovering in vain you probably lost track of the site.
Wise men proclaim the same things happen oft in life ~
For those amongst friends and foes who make a decision
Woefully wish and wonder why they hadn’t taken care ~
To make more premium choices with paramount precision.
Those those survive among us who bemoan what they lost ~
Evermore complain they are, indeed in need of a golden key
Magically opening their future’s ark, for some at great cost ~
Bestowing them with the integrity to alter their own destiny.
I am convinced nothing is final, or entirely said and done ~
As we lament on experiments that languish without bound.
There are powerful portals to the past that can be opened ~
Wherein certain keys are harbored, that are yet to be found.
Man’s mournful images mirror souls enduring endless strife ~
As catastrophe and cataclysm continue to lurk upon the Earth.
Ceaseless seasons foster reasons for longer nights of gloom ~
As they await and anticipate morning light to invade a room.
While the past is but a wrinkle in time yet to be Botox-injected.
Know well that power to harness time is just at our fingertips.
For man’s keys to unravel time travel need not be infected ~
With closed minds of humankind, for we can make this trip.
Just beyond the sun, moon and stars exists a world of wonder ~
We have the education and means to fulfill this travel dream.
To harness this time control would unleash our minds and souls ~
To perhaps save our dying planet through our brilliant scheme.
Yet I am left to wonder will life on Earth ever be the same ~
Once we engage and turn back the page, managing time travel?
This passion runs through my veins - era journey for us to tame ~
I cannot begin to fathom the mysteries we could hopefully unravel.
The key to unveil the past need not remain in a locked strongbox ~
Left under a doormat, that we decide to one day use it as a spare.
For this key is available to us now; it we merely need to unlock ~
Indeed, it leads us to somewhere before we vanish into nowhere.
The past need not remain in catacombs, forever lost in an abyss ~
It needs to be harnessed and retrodden, and not forgotten about.
The past’s portals are open to mortals, who eternally go amiss ~
And be not afraid, for now we have the means to find our way out.
O, imagine if we could eradicate wars before they ever happened ~
Wipe out epidemics and, amongst our nations, become prophetic?
Create a utopian new age merely by turning the page into the past ~
From which perhaps a brave new world may now flourish and last.
To be able to journey into the past is merely a stone’s throw away ~
Let us pray we do this swiftly before we witness our day of decay …
I dedicate this to the fallen Columbia space shuttle heroes and their survivors.
May they rest in peace in their hearse among stars in the universe's purse.
